Nothing could be done with the wilful boy until he was knocked down: He was taken to the city prison. He was placed In a cell with another prisoner, whom he Immediately attacked. at-tacked. He was then placed In a cell by himself. He improved the opportunity opportu-nity by breaking all of the furniture. Again the Jailer was obliged to put the child into another cell. This time the incorrigible was placed In the "dark" cell, which is as black and silent as an J Egyptian midnight. The darkness had a soothing effect on the lad's temper, but the Jailer would not pay any heed when the young man begged plteously to be taken out. |
