April io.One of the rare Copies, of .the first edition of Percy Bysche Shelly's "AdonaYs" brought the highest price at the second day's sale of the Appleton library, J410 being- paid for . it. The same poet's "Alastor" brought $225, and a first edition of "St. Irvynt" $150. A oopy of Foe's "Tales of the Gro- tesque and Arabesque," In two volumes, sold for 390. . Of the American authors' editions, Longfellow and Wbittler were ln the highest demand, a copy of Whittier's "Moll Pitcher" going for $285 and Longfellow's Long-fellow's "Evangeline" bringing 1137. The Tennyson's "Poems by Two Brothers" Broth-ers" brought $180. A first edition of Milton's poems went for $390. Charge Lamb's "Tales of Rosamund Gray and Old Blind Margaret" fetched $300, and Washington Irvlng's "Knickerbocker History of New Tork" $17!. |
