Because Be-cause the letterheads upon which was written the proposition whereby Eugene V. Debs offered to lecture here In the near future did not bear the label of the International Typographical union, the Kansas City Industrial council refused to' conslden the communication at all. As a- result Eugene V. Debs will not lecture. . Debs as a labor leader and once a candidate for President of the United States is very popular with the work-ingmen work-ingmen here, where his powers as an orator are well known. The proposition turned down was to have Debs lecture here some time in March under 'the auspices of. the Industrial council. The members of the council say that, while they would like to have. Debs here, it Is impossible for them to con-elder con-elder a proposition written on nonunion non-union letter paper. They declared that the union rules were Inexorable and applied ap-plied to Debs as well as to any one else. |
