The fast Ffser.ser train, Chattanooga' to Salisbury, leaving Chattanooga at 11:48 last n!g"iit, ras -recked by epreadlng rails .bout three miles west of Lenoir City, Tenn., this morning about 2 o'clock. Three persons were killed and twerty-four injured. The dead: John Bibb of Knoxville, erg-ineer; A. J. Tucker of Newport, mail clerk; Alfred Best, Knoxville, colored porter. - The wreck occurred on the top of a fteep emtankirrent, and -the train plunged down this. The locomotive v ent within thirty feet of the Tennessee Tennes-see river. Four of the coaches were . telescoped and partially piled up on the engine. Three coaches were burned out- Tlghu ' . The Cincinnati Southern train from Chattanooga to Cincinnati was traveling travel-ing behind the ill-fated train, having to come by way of Knoxville on account of damage to the tracks of the Cincinnati Cincin-nati Southern between Chattanooga and Ilarrlman last night. The engine of the Cincinnati Southern train ran up f the scene of the wreck, and by pulling pull-ing two of the rear sleepers back on the track and away from the wreckage succeeded suc-ceeded in saving them from destruction by f.re, ... ' ' The scene of the wreck Is between London and Lnoir City, Tenn., where the railroad ' parallels Abe Tennessee river for a considerable distance.. The construction of the road at this point was very difficult engineering, and it is the most unfortunate place for a wreck. Pluck of Engineer. Just' before Engineer Bibb : died a physician endeavored to have him drinte a little whisky in the hope of extending ex-tending his life as long as possible. The engineer refused It, saying: I "I have " never touched it yet, and don't expect to begin to drink it now."
