The Republicans will this evening select delegates for the county convention, which is to be held at the Salt Palace October-8. The Democrats will choose the delegates they will send to the county convention and also to the State convention. The State convention convenes con-venes at the Salt Lake Theater next Thursday morning and the county convention con-vention will be held at the Salt Palace on October 10. ney, and George M. Sullivan, American candidate for Representative, will be the speakers at the Woman 's American club, which holds a meeting at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the home of Mrs. A. H. Little, rear 732 South Fourth East street. An address will also be S'ven by Mariette Marvin of Colorado, rs. Kite Bridewell Anderson will give a number of vocal selections. e e The woman's auxiliary to the American Amer-ican party will open up a campaign in Murray Thursday evening, October 4. Arrangements have been made for a large meeting to be held at 8 o'clock at the Murray opera-house. Among the speakers will be A. J. Weber, Frank J. Cannon and J. E. Darmer. The American Ameri-can drum corps and others have been secured to furnish music for the occasion. oc-casion. A car for Murray will leave First South and Main streets at 6:45 o'clock in the evening. e e e The Republican county convention for Summit county will bo held on October Octo-ber 19, at Park City. The Democratic Demo-cratic convention will be held later. e e e Dave McDonald, whose residence is in the neighborhood of Big Cottonwood, is out for a nomination for County Commissioner on the Republican ticket, e e Unwilling to longer stand for the dictations dic-tations of an ecclesiastic monarch, the residents of Summit county are now in open rebellion. They have urged upon up-on the American party that they be organized, and next Wednesday a great mass meeting has been arranged for at Dewey hall at Park City. Hundreds of voters of the county have declared their intention of throwing aside the political yoke that has dominated the State and declare that they will organize or-ganize the entire eounty. City Attorney At-torney H. 8. Townsend of Park City will preside at the meeting, lie conld have been nominated for County Attorney At-torney by the Republicans, but refused to stand for the dictations of a political politi-cal boss. A special train will leave Salt Lake City at 2 o'clock Wednesday, Wednes-day, and arrive at Park City at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. It is expected ex-pected that 200 persons from Salt Lake City will take the trip. The speakers from Salt Lake for the meeting are Frank J. Cannon, Albert J. Weber and W. Mont Ferry. There will also be a number from Park City. e e e It is told in eome quarters of the city that Mike Mauss of Murray, now the Marshal of that place, is "a sure thing" on the Democratic slate for Sheriff. It is even asserted that he will be backed by the machine against the other three candidates, "Joe" Smith, John Howells and A. F. Cummings. e e e Col M. M. Kaighn, who was not an "angel" for the machine and was not fondled and pampered by the same octopus oc-topus organization, has dropped out of the race for County Attorney before the Bmoot convention, and left the pie for Willard Hanson. E. O. Leather-wood Leather-wood is said to be still in the race, but regardless of his ability he cannot expect ex-pect to land anything on the machine slate. Col. Kaighn says that he did not continue as a candidate for nomination on aecount of his private law practice. ' j . e e e A call has been issued for the American Amer-ican district chairmen of the city districts dis-tricts to meet at 8 o'clock this evening at American headquarters, as there is business of importance to be attended to. e Attorney J. D. Skeen of Ogden, who has made many of the politicians of that place suffer for acts of theirs not sanctioned by law, has announced himself him-self as an independent candidate for Count Attorney of Weber county. He is endeavoring to secure the place on his merits and not as the foundling of any political machine The Smoot yoke fit the necks of the delegates at Spanish Fork, Utah county, Wednesday with the exception of the few that represented Santaquin and Goshen. They were compelled to retire in disgust, as the knights of the Smoot table were in control. Albert Glazier, an alternate from the Fourth ward of Provo and a brother-in-law of the apostle-Senator, was given the seat which the delegation from that district declared belonged to J. 8. Berry. The latter was an alternate and also held a proxy, but he would not go Smoot-ward. Smoot-ward. . The Democrats of Davis county have elected the following delegates to the State convention which will be held in this city next Thursday: John B. Barnes, George Swan, J. G. M. Barnes, Dr. J. H. Grant, Jr;, and Henry M. Blood. Alternates, John C.-Owen, O. A. Williams, Heber J. Sheffield, George D. Bennett, Hyrum Stewart. e e Assistant County Attorney Willard Hanson is worried. It is reported that Mr. Hanson spent a sleenless Sunday night trying to figure out just where "he is at "with regard to the nomination nomi-nation for County Attorney. Some time within the last two years Mr. Hanson Han-son announced that he would be a candidate can-didate before the Bepublican county convention this fall for County Attorney. Attor-ney. Mr. Hanson has repeated his announcement an-nouncement many times since he first mentioned it. He has had friends out working for him for several months, and it was believed that he had a cinch on the nomination. Yesterday he was nominated for County Attorney by the labor convention. The nomination was by acclamation. It looked good to friends of Mr. Hanson until that cruel resolution was introduced and adopted by nnanimous vote just before the meeting meet-ing adjourned. The resolution instructed instruct-ed the candidates nominated yesterday not to accept a nomination for any office of-fice on anv other ticket. It is that resolution that is causing Willard his worry. If he accepts the nomination which was made yesterday he cannot accept one from the Bepublican convention. con-vention.
