Lady Kitty Ogilvie will be married from Cortachy Castle, Forfarshire, one of the ancient feudal strongholds of Scotland, with a particularly weird ghost legend attached. at-tached. Cortaehy castle, the ancestral home of the Earls f Airlie, ia haunted by a spectral drummer-boy, who beats a ghostly tattoo when an Ogilvie is about to die. In life the drummer waa a messenger mes-senger sent to a former Earl by an officer offi-cer against whom he had a grudge. The wicked Earl had the boy killed, and his body thrown out of the window inside in-side of his own drum. The last time tho fatal drum was heard was at the time of the Boer war, when a woman guest, who knew nothing of the legend, to!d at the dinner-table how she had heard mysterious music accompanied ac-companied by a drum. Shortly afterward after-ward eame the news that the Earl of Airlie had been killed at the engagement engage-ment of Diamond Hiil, while leading his regiment of lancers in a charge. The gallant Earl waa Lady Kitty's father, and her brother, who is only 13, is the present holder of the title. |
