Show DIRECTORS DECIDE TO REBUILD UTAH PICKING PLANT WITHOUT DELAY "The Utah Packing company will rebuild its plant. It will be rebuilt on a larger and better scale than before it was destroyed by the fire. The work of rebuilding will commence just as soon, as possible. "We have not yet decided on just how much we will spend, but the plant will be far larger aud better than the one destroyed. There is no question of the money. We have that and we intend to use it. " The above statement was made to THE TELEGRAM today by James C. Leary, director of the Utah Packing company, whose plant in. North Salt Lake was d est roved bv fire during the windstorm Saturday night. The board of directors met in the local office of the company, Third West and First South streets, shortly after 10 o'clock this morning. The "first business discussed dis-cussed was whether the company should rebuill the destroyed plant. This question took but a few minutes to decide, every director present announcing an-nouncing himself in no uncertain terms on the question. The matter of details and the size of the plant were then taken into consid-. eration. This question was discussed at length and the final aeti'on of the board will not be known until late this afternoon. after-noon. One thing, however, is assured, that is, that the plant will be rebuilt just as soon as possible and that it will be larger and better than the one destroyed de-stroyed by the fire of Sunday morning. This action of the board of directors is good news to the people of Salt Lake as well as the entire intermonntain re-, gion. The plant which was destroyed was valued at $100,000. and would have been ready for operation not later than November 1 of this year. Whil the company was a heavy loser through the fire, the whole intermountain country coun-try was also a loser, for the opening of the plant meant much to both stock-ra'ser stock-ra'ser and consumer. The plant which was destroyed would have had a capacity of 1000 cattle, cat-tle, 1000 sheep and a like number of hogs per day. The new plant will have a still greater canaeity. More than this, it will be built and protected in a way that the former plant was not. |
