I Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman's lm; pulsive cry of "Vive la Douma!" in hsi speech before .. the Interparliamentary union, was generally' supposed in this country to have , been an Interjection of French. But his whole address was In that language. Mastery of French is one of his accomplishments of which little has been heard. According to a contributor contrib-utor to the August Woman at Home, both Sir Henry and Lady Campbell-Banner-man speak French fluently and constantly constant-ly converse in that language. They always al-ways spend some time in Paris each year, and have . many friends in the French capital. They are fond of exploring ex-ploring the old chateaux, and hare for many years been .collectors of old French furniture and curios. Their private rooms at Belmont are filled with lovely things, and much of the decoration of the castle was done -by French artists. The saloon, a very handsome apartment leading lead-ing from the front hall, is decorated and furnished in Louis XIV. style. The doors, with their white-and-gold antique moldings, were copied from the palace of Versailles. New York Evening Post. |
