Show PURCHASES OF SILVER. The Secretary of the Treasury has determined to purchase silver to be used for subsidiary coinage. Tenders of bullion at the office of the Director of the Mint are invited for every Wednesday until further orders. The tenders are to be for delivery at Philadelphia, Phil-adelphia, New Orleans or Denver mints, and settlements settle-ments are to be made on the New York basis, all bullion guaranteed 999 fine. It is the intention of the Secretary to limit purchases to one hundred thousand ounces a week, though the first purchase may be in exeess of that amount. The action has been taken by the Secretary on the advice of the Attorney-General, who holds that the Secretary has authority under the provisions of section 3526 of the Revised Statutes. |
