The Troy laundry plant la attempting an experiment In the way of well digging on It grounds at Sixth East and Fourth South streets. - A twelve-inch pipe well is being dug 800 feet Into the ground. At that depth It la believed that a, continual flowing stream ' will be 'encountered, which will be the source of a constant apply. . Notes are being taken by the drillers as to the strata encountered, and strong signs of oil have been produced. The laundry uses more than 150,000 gallons of . water every: nine hours, and for that reason It is believed that a good well would be more to the advantage of the laundry. Two wells are already on the place, and these yield a supply , of about 60,000 gallons a day. At times the city-water contains a strong sediment , which is Hard on the white linen washed. The water from the wells does not as a rule contain this i sediment. The boring of the well is being done by the Southern California Drilling and Construction company. The well has now reached 667 feet. The best flow of water struck thus far by the diggers was at 187 feet, when a flow was reached. As the bore sinks Into the ground a twelve-Inch pipe is sunk into the ground. The total cost of the well Is estimated at $5000. |
