Show MONUMENT POR GEN CONNOR Movement on foot to Mark Grave of founder of fort Douglas. As slready announced In THE TELEGRAM TELE-GRAM a movement is on foot to erect a suitable monument over the grave of Gen. Patrick E. Connor, the founder of Fort Douglas, and who died in this city Deeembe 17, 1891. Gen. Connor was burled in the cemetery ceme-tery of the fort which he established. and for years the only thing to mark his. grave was a small head stone. It was stated to. THE TELEGRAM this morning that the matter of erecting a suitable monument would be taken ud at once by the local members of the G. A. R. and the Masonic lodge, of which Gen. Connor was a member. It is stated stat-ed that any citizen who wished to contribute con-tribute to the fund would be given an opportunity. Gen. Patrick E. Connor was born March -17, 1820. and won many honors during the Civil war. He came to Utah in 1862 and took part, as leader, in the fight against the Indians in the Bear River battle the following year. |
