Show NAY ABANDON HILL AT ATHOL m m MMMS Union Pacific Surveying Cut-Off in Wyoming to Avoid Heavy Haul. A party of Union Pacific surveyors are at work surveying a line from Carr, on the Union Pacific, to Borle. on the main line west of Cheyenne, with a view of building a road between those points, tljus avoiding the troublesome Athol hill. For several years the Union Pacific has been seeking a feasible plan by which to avoid the grade on both sides of Athol hill and a short time ago was seriously considering the cutting down of the hill at an expense of many thousands of dollars. They think now that they have a much better plan, as by building a cutoff cut-off from Carr to Bori it will not be necessary to haul the cars up the grade the second time. Such a cut-off would also make nearly two hours' difference In the time of passenger trains from the West direct to Denver, and a Kansas Kan-sas City-Portland train would undoubtedly undoubt-edly be put on. With this arrangement Cheyenne would be cut out on all the business between be-tween Denver and the West. |
