Show WOMAN IN MALE ATTIRE SEEKS JOB ON RAILWAY. SEATTLE. Wash., Sept. 2. A desire to work and earn money by manual labor caused Mrs. 8. E. Curtis of San Francisco to don male attire and go to Alaska to work on a railroad. In company with 443 men she boarded the steamship Valencia In San Francisco and proceeded to Seward Sew-ard to work on the Alaska Central. The woman .gave the name of Mrs. S. E. Curtis. She registered in her application applica-tion for work as George Curtis. With her hair cut short, a pipe In her mouth and well-fitting male attire, she passed the agent, who gave her a ticket ot Seward as a laborer. Her feminine voice attracted attention, and she finally admitted her identity. |
