Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite ' of Free" Masonry, the opening: session of which was beld in the Masonic temple this morning, and which will continue for four full days and nights. Local Masons have been hard at work for several weeks preparing; for the work of the reunion. A large class of candidates for the Scottish Rite honors Is being Instructed in the mysteries of the higher degrees, and the session promises to be one of the most important import-ant ever held in the State. The supreme council, in charge of the work, comprises the following thirty-third thirty-third degree Masons: James Daniel Richardson,' grand commander, Washington. Wash-ington. . C; Frederick Webber, secretary-general, Washington, D. C; Frank Mills Foote, sovereign grand inspector-general inspector-general for Wyoming and Utah, of Evans ton, Wyo. All of these men are here. The opening session this morning comprised the conferring of ineffable degrees 4 to 14. At 9:30 o'clock the reception re-ception of visitors and candidates was held, and at 10 o'clock was held the spe- ' t cial .convention of the Lodge of Perfection) Perfec-tion) - . -A half hour later secret master, fourth degree, .was conferred, S. W. Radeon, 82, K. C. B., acting as King Solomon. .- ' The afternoon session began at 2 o'clock, when the work of conferring the perfect master, fifth degree, was begun. Lester D. Freed, 32, acted as King Solomon. Sol-omon. The sixth, seventh and eighth degrees were also given. At 4 o'clock this afternoon the ninth degree. Knight Elu of the Nine, will be conferred by Joseph G. Bywater, acting as King Solomon. The tenth to thirteenth thir-teenth degrees will also be given during the afternoon.- . . At 7:30 o'clock tonight the work of the fourteenth degree or Perfect Elu. will be conferred. William J. Lynch. 32, K. C. C. H., presiding. The historical and religious degrees, fifteen to eighteen, will be conferred tomorrow to-morrow and tomorrow night. Corn-forth, Corn-forth, George H. Dern, A. H. Warren. In charge of the class are Charles W. Morse, Jacob J. Greenewald and Fred Clement Schramm. The music committee . comprises I. O. Rhoades, Ajt H. Pea body. J. S. M. Crltchlow. The directors of properties and electricians elec-tricians are George David Aiken and Henry Simon. The four colors of badges worn designate des-ignate the ' various classes of Masons participating. in the work. White badges are worn by neophytes, yellow badges by visitors, red badges by members and purple badges "by thirty-third degree Masons.' James D. Richardson, grand commander, com-mander, the highest Mason In America, who Is present at the meeting, was formerly for-merly a member of Congress from Tennessee Ten-nessee and was the Democratic leader for two sessions. He retired from politics pol-itics to devote his entire time to Masonry Ma-sonry after he was elevated to the position po-sition he now holds! |
