Show t. t t An End to Partisanship P 1 pARTISAN ARTISAN politics will be forgotten in America for the the- duration of this war I That is the decision not only of the nations nation's political leaders as evidenced in formal statements statements statements state state- ments but it is the decision of the American congress and the American people as evidenced evidenced evi evi- evi- evi deuced by their united support of the government government govern govern- ment went and of the president of the United States t That government and that president are Democratic in their political complexion complexion but but from the instant the Japanese bombers loosed i their loads of death and destruction over Hat Hawaii Ha- Ha t 1 the party labels worn by officials and congressmen lost their significance From now on we are all just Americans fighting Americans fighting to save our country from destruction Differences of opinion there will still be in inthe inthe inthe the halls of government government but but those differences differences differences differ differ- must not and will not be ba based ed on political political political cal considerations and they must be settled not on the basis of partisan obligations or divisions divisions divi divi- f but on the basis solely of the best interests interests inters inter inter- s ests of the nation It is good to see this move toward the setting setting setting set set- ting aside of partisanship extended right into the halls of government in Salt Lake City Mayor Ab Jenkins is to be commended on his appeal for unity within the city commission so that the local government can concentrate its efforts on the important job of meeting adequately the war emergency on the home front He said We can no longer operate our government as we have done before The time has come when all of us must forget personalities personalities personalities per per- and petty fights This I am willing willingto to do for do-for for I realize that issues that th t seemed important a few days ago have shrunk into insignificance in comparison with present problems The mayor is right in his stand Salt Lake City can no longer afford the luxury of of- personal personal personal per per- bickering and discord in city govern govern- ment went We have a job to do in Salt Lake City our our part to play in the wide nation-wide task of safeguarding America and insuring maximum effectiveness and minimum interference with our war effort We cant can't do that job with the greatest efficiency in the midst of discord and dissension From Froni now on individual differences and party differences must be forgotten as a united nation fights shoulder to shoulder in a common common common com com- mon cause If we lose this war there wont won't be beany beany beany any America or any governments or offices or jobs worth fighting over The important thing now for partisans and politicians is to save the prizes of office and politics Once they're saved will be time enough to take up again the domestic battle to see which side is going to have them |
