| Show Hearts Haven GANDER USES RECIPE FOR GOOSE SAUCE B By BETTY ETTY BLAIR BLAm LA LAI I wonder why the goose should suppose her appetite to be so very different from that of the gander Or why she jets ets upset if one fine day the gander decides to cook cook his own goose by the gooses goose's favorite recipe Dear Miss Blair I am a high school girl one among more than a thousand stu stu- stu- stu dents I am considered pretty and popular For about two years I have been going with a boy whom I shall call Jack We haven't been going steady though it has been rumored around here that we are Jack never did go out with other girls unless he was invited to a party with one or something something something some some- thing like that so I was quite shocked one night at a school play to see him there with another another another an an- other girl I didn't let him see me because I thought it might be embarrassing to all of us He Lilies Likes Her He has told me he likes me more than any other girl he knows He gets quite angry when I go with other boys I know we should go with other girls and boys but it made me feel awful when I saw him with another girl Do you think the reason he went with the other girl was was was- because because because be be- cause I went to the school dance the night before with another boy What shall I do to find out just where I stand with him Thanks a lot Anxious c I wonder if Jack hasn't often wondered just where he stands with you at those particular times when he has learned of your going out with other boys Jack has already said he likes you more than any other girl and his mind and emotions probably react much in inthe inthe inthe the same way yours do He lets you know how he feels by becoming angry Are you going to let him know how hurt you were and are areVell Well Vell why not Why not be as honest with Jack as he was with you That would be a fine basis on which to start a discussion of your problem with each other You Youcan Youcan Youcan can say you think its it's very silly for him to be angry or for you to tobe tobe tobe be hurt when each sees the other out with another girl or boy That you think at your age you should be je friends with others though you may each continue to like the other best jest And then say that you plan to be behonest behonest behonest honest with each other from now on That neither wants to put anything across on the other And i that you will be just as honest with each other if it the affections of one or or both should change change or or cease altogether I dont don't know why all young people peo- peo pie Dle cant can't face all these problems squarely with each other and be beas beas beas as frank and as understanding about their friendship as they are about the shows they both like or dislike or the books they prefer r or the kind of recreation they enjoy I most I 1 know many of them who I do employ this method of frankness Be Casual Of course it is hard to talk about your emotions especially while youre you're emoting But when he is past the stage of anger for your having laving gone to the dance with another another another an an- other boy and you are past the stage of feeling awful for seeing him with another girl suppose you say Why dont don't you ou come to my place tonight tonight tonight-it if its it's a week-end week night night and and lets let's play hearts or rummy J When hes he's there and the game is going say casually How did you like the show the other I Inight night I saw you but you didn't see me And was I burned up Of course you put on a mock show of being all het up so he will know its it's all in fun and he will probably say Well now you know how I feel etc etc etc Dont Don't berate him dont don't let the conversation sink to a word brawl Keep it pleasant keep it peppy Keep your charm and Im I'm sure hell he'll let you know where you stand with him INTERESTING EXPERIENCE Dear Miss Blair The discussions in your column are both interesting and j Although we readers may not express ourselves very often Im I'm sure your work is deeply 1 appreciated May I supply a bit of information information information tion as well as ask a favor i In regard to the flying squirrel mentioned a few days ago I had the opportunity of catching one for examination For the information information infer infer- mation of those who have not had this experience the following might be interesting Squirrels Squirrel's Nest It builds a nest similar to a I large open birds bird's nest and when molested jumps and glides some distance to the base of another tree Climbing to the top the squirrel repeats this until it is safely out of danger The skin is very loose along the sides from leg to leg In flight the legs are spread outward stretching the skin into wings The tail is wide and is used as a rudder I found several nests in Spanish Spanish Spanish Span Span- ish Fork canyon near Thistle Utah S Miss Blair if I may ask a favor of you or your readers will you kindly help me locate the words to the Waltz a very beautiful old favorite Best wishes Lon see I realize that it is always a task to write a letter I am therefore doubly appreciative when one c conies comes mes J that hat has been prompted by something something some some- thing hing in the column t What an interesting experience 11 yours has been It stirs in me a avery very deep wave of nostalgia for when I was a very small girl gill I too had lad leisure for my love of nature 7 I wanted a pet gopher and used to sit for hours as still as a mouse by a gopher hole with a string in a slip knot looped around its hole And once I actually caught one But he would not be tamed And Andic he ic would not eat at least while I 1 watched Afraid of the tragedy I of seeing him slowly starve to death I returned him to his natural habitat I wish I had the words to the Waltz for you If one of my readers is kind enough to send them to me be sure you shall have lave a
