S Pacific defense system Behind the move is a growing fear among Australians that because of their leanings toward state socialism the clique controlling the Chamberlain government is prepared to sacrifice them to make a deal with Japan in China just as the Czechs were sold down the river to woo Hitler's good will in central Eu Eu- rope Several years ago the Australian labor government government government gov gov- thumbed its nose at the demands of London money powers With these powers now in the saddle in Downing street the Australians Australians Austra Austra- lians hans are afraid that th the financial interests will n n Hn toss Australia on the Japanese chopping block to save their holdings in China To circumvent such a trade the Australians are prepared to shift their external orientation orientation orientation orienta orienta- tion completely Instead of facing toward the east and thinking in terms of the British empire empire empire em em- pire they would turn westward and become part of the American continent orbit To fo effect this new alignment the Australians would establish a line of air and nd naval bases that would tie in with the defenses of Hawaii the Panama canal and South America Should Australia under the pressure of London policies switch its orientation from the European to the American continent the change would have tremendous effect on Canada whose bonds with the U. U S. S already are far closer than those between the U. U S. S and Austra Austra- lia ha Too Natural I Because Cordell Hull behaved too naturally a newsreel censored him They were taking shots of the secretary of state want wanted cd one of him receiving an important dispatch from abroad They placed Hull at his desk and asked his aid Harry A.
