Cannon, Apostle F. D. Richards and George Reynolds, one or the seven Presidents of the Seventies; also President L. W. ShurUifl and his Counselors, C. F. Mlddleton, and IT. C. Flygare, Bishops or the various wards and their Counselors. Aflersinglngand prayer, President ShuttlhT briefly addressed the congregation. con-gregation. Ho wai glad to statu that the utmost harmony har-mony existed throughout the Stake. Djrlng the past three months the meeting-houses had leu well filled md their Sunday schools well attended. at-tended. Tills was very encouraging. He would, however, like to see an improved attendance nt the fat meetings aud au Increase in the ollerings to the poor. Let eacli one take up a labor himself and work for tbe good of everyone. There was ample work for all. The winter was before them aud they must see that the poor did not want. He ex pected that tho Presidency of the jlake aud the High Council would Mold ward conferences during the vinter and visit every ward la the Stake, i'nIdenl George Reynolds was exceedingly pleased to have tbe privilege of meeting with the Saints un that cccailuil. These gatherings xere very pleating in the sight of God. All theSalnts were privileged to boM communication with the heavens, but tuii should always be doue in humility. Sometimes even s would occur altogether dillerent Irom what they ha! been looking for. Should they, therefore, lese heart and say these tilings were not jr Uod? They rnuat remember that God 'a ways were not as man's ways, and that His kingdom would not'be built up by the valor of men, but by Ills own Almighty hand. God's plan uf salvation was perfect and jould not be improved. Lit them til remember this, and dillgeutly wotk for their own and the world's silvatljn. President Qcorgo Q. Cannon said it was nix years since he had the pleisure ol meetiug with the Saints in that Tabernacle; yet it only leemcdafewdays. Hu felt to rejoice In the spirit of Iltetiy and unity which was there, and also felt with all lib heart that thu blessing asked for in tho opening prayer would be granted aud the Spirit or God poured out upon their meetings. He rejoiced to hear tbo testimony of President ShurtllU, giving thorn a Cilthful description of the condition f tilings In tills Stake. He rejoiced that thero was such a good spirit, aud to much attention to duty. There was much to encourage them. Tliey had to pass through fiery ordeals or-deals and Vrould be placed in conditions con-ditions where there were new surroundings sur-roundings and new clrcums.ancvs oftentimes uulooked for aud unexpected; unex-pected; but hediJ not believe there was over a time In our history when the people were prepared to endure moru trials and when thore was greater devotion to tho truth than it the present moment. T he Saints had more knowledge nnd more comprehension com-prehension ol thu will or God than any other people on the race of the earth. Slore had been revealed to them, nnd they were not so affected by the action of men. The latter-day Saints were improving im-proving and the Lord wasaecepting their sacriflccsand their willingness to prove their fidelity to this work. Though some had lalletl the bulk had beeu true aud devoted, and the Lord would accept their sacrifices aud devotion, but Hu would hie? them and their children. God had called them to be a chosen people; through them He would accomplish His great and mighty purposes. The gosel had no defect, no imperfections; im-perfections; it needed no latching; it encircled the whole human ram ily. When we got through this lire we would rejoice over ourafllictions here aud see God'i designs In all. God required faith and self denial, witli the promise of reward hereafter. here-after. Let us remember that this life Is only a probation and that God wai all the time pleading ith us to overcome, not In torn of thunder but in a still small voire. If we ut-re faithful, all would bo fulfilled in the future. The meeting closed with singing and prayer. |
