Latban, a graduate of Baliol, Oxford, Ox-ford, now connected with St. John's school here, has come to the rescue of tho condemned man and Is actively ac-tively engaged in circulating petitions peti-tions far a commutation of the sec tf nee. He has given for publication a number of, as he claims, Burch-all's Burch-all's letters, written since be was condemned to death, with a view, it Is eald, or showing that Blrchall is not of sound mind. They are written writ-ten in a careless, flippant manner. In one he attacks the Crouln witnesses wit-nesses for their lying statements, but lie neither admits uir denies his guilt, saying: '-Well, never mind, its all up now, but rest assured that the old spirit which hasledmeso olten through thick aud thin Is uuconquered, and I shall hold up my head to the end in Ihu old game way."
