Show I HOBBLE CREEK FENCE ; : The second proposition on which taxpayers will 1 vote is that of a proposed fence along the banks of : Hobble Creek. This would be for a smaller amount, namely $15,000. There are undoubtedly some citizens in Springville who will vote against this proposition, v basing their action on a belief that it is not feasible. Others are ready to spend a few dollars to see if conditions con-ditions might be improved. Tax money from these same citizens who are now asking for a fence has been used for projects which in their opinion have been far less important. Much ! money has also been appropriated for projects which have benefited far less people than the number which signed recent petitions for the creek fence. Just a year ago this week a 2-year-old child fell from a bridee over Hobble Creek. Is there a single person who would vote NO on a proposition" which MIGHT have saved this child? Just four months ago another small child slipped from the creek bank in a place where a fence would have held him back. One child's life is valued to a community in cold figures at $78,000. Stripping sentiment from the proposal, can the city afford not to try a project which MIGHT save a life, when thousands are spent annually to save property or to make more money. Both proposals before citizens are worthy of serious seri-ous consideration, and both should receive the approval ap-proval of well-thinking voters. |
