Show Big Building The largest building ever constructed con-structed was the Manufacturers and Liberal Arts Building built for the World's Columbia Exposition, Expo-sition, Chicago, in 1893. It accommodated ac-commodated a quarter of a million mil-lion people at one time, and was 1687 feet long (almost a third of a mile), 787 feet wide, and had a floor area of 31 acres. There were 14 million pounds of steel trusses, 17 million feet of lumber (equivalent (equiv-alent to 1100 acres of pine forest), and 3000 pounds of iron braces in it. |
