Show Springville High School Places First In Region 3 Commercial Contests Springville high school students, who have done much to bring honors to this city in art, Friday nroved that thev can excell in still another phase of activity by taking first place hon- ors in the Region Three high school commercial contests conducted con-ducted at the B. Y. U. More than 100 students representing eleven high schools in the district, participated. par-ticipated. Coming second to Springville in points won during the meet was Provo, with Spanish Fork placing third. Carol Eve Fullmer, daughter of Mrs. Jonena Fullmer, received 98.4 percent in the second-year shorthand short-hand contest, which was the highest high-est individual score made during the entire meet. Dorothy Pennington came second sec-ond in the same contest, while Margene Porter, also of Springville, Spring-ville, tied with a Provo student for third place. Team places went to Springville, first; Provo, second; Spanish Fork, third. In first-year typewriting, Spanish Span-ish Fork gained over Springville, placing first and second, but Co-leen Co-leen Lee of Springville came in for third place; Keith Roylance, of Springville; fourth, LuDean Clark, Springville, fifth. Team honors went to Spanish Fork, first; Springville, second; and Payson, third. In second-year type contests, Spanish Fork took first, and Ly-nette Ly-nette Madsen of Springville second. Third, fourth, and fifth went to Provo. Teams placing in this contest con-test were: Provo, first; Springville. Spring-ville. second; Spanish Fork, third. In first-year shorthand, Gloria Ann Warner of Springville came second. A Provo girl placed first. Darla Robins of Springville, came third; Carol Jacobsen, Springville, fourth; and Provo placed fifth. Team honors were awarded to Springville, first; Provo, second; and Spanish Fork, third. Springville took third place in the bookkeeping contests. Students who placed from the local high school included: J. Clifton Hall, Robert L. Alleman, Ralph J. Snel-son, Snel-son, -Glen Sanford. Alonzo Sandstrom of Tintic high school, Eureka, presented the certificate cer-tificate awards, and in addition to the contests, several short talks and demonstrations were given during the day. : |
