Show (Paragraphs Otj Donald P. Frandsen, 235 South 1st East St., of Springville, is one of a hundred Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets selected to attend a six-weeks' course at Fort Bliss, Texas. The group includes students from colleges in Texas, California and Utah. This is the first ROTC class to be given instruction in-struction in guided missiles and the first to have the opportunity of seeing a rocket shoot at White Sands Proving Ground, N. M., which will be .visited during the course. Under supervision of the Anti-aircraft and . Guided Missile Branch of the Artillery School at Fort Bliss, the cadets are instructed instruct-ed in anti-aircraft, artillery tactics tac-tics and techniques, fire all types of anti-aircraft artillery, man fire control, equipment and radars and work on related military subjects. Cadet Frandsen attended Utah State College of Agriculture at Logan Lo-gan last year and was a captain in ROTC. He spent three years in the Army during the war and eight months overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stone are spending a few weeks in Springville. They have been making mak-ing their home in California. Mrs. Flossie " Sanford left the past week for a short visit in San Francisco, . Calif., with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brinton and family, who have a new baby daughter. The Brintons are former residents of Springville. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fox and family of Kanosh were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brown Sunday. Cluff Hopla left recently for New Orleans, La., to continue his studies stud-ies at Tulane University. Mrs. Hop-la, Hop-la, the former Moyra Ullock, and son plan to join him in the near future. . . . .... .. . .. Don Ollerton, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Ollerton, has been on leave of absence from, the Navy and visited . his parents and friends in this city. He has been stationed at Philadelphia, Pa. Miss Aileen Dunn of Perry, 111., is visiting indefinitely with her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Price, in this city. Guests of Mrs. Beulah Whiting here the past week, were: Mrs. Ida Klett and Mrs. Betty Vanden-berg Vanden-berg of Santa Barbara, Califi They are making a trip across the continent, visiting many places of interest. The two had toured the parks in southern Utah and during their stay in the East, plan to call on Mr. and Mrs. Robert Springmeyer (Venice Whiting) at Boston, Mass. a ' Dr. and Mrs. Myron Crandall and Mr. and Mrs. Jordon Pederson of Salt Lake City, visited here Sunday with their sister and husband, hus-band, Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Rowland. Row-land. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Bird and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Stone of Salt Lake City, left early this week on a few days' vacation to the canyons of Southern Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Conover, Woodrow Weight, Ronda Jenkins, Mrs. Marta Czirr and Mrs. Manilla Brown spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Como Springs, attending at-tending the summer convention of the Utah State Press Association. w Mr. and Mrs. Tom Randall (Le-nore (Le-nore Weight) and two children of Centerville, visited Sunday with relatives and friends here. John J. Russell spent the past week visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Russell in Springville, enroute from a business trip in the Northwest to Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Phillips and Catherine and Clair Phillips recently re-cently returned from an enjoyable vacation trip during which they toured the Northwest, visiting in British Columbia, at the Grand Coulee dam, at Mt. Ranier and Glacier National Park, returning home by way of Yellowstone Park. They were gone about two weeks. Mrs. R. E. Adams of Los Angeles, Ange-les, Calif., has spent the last month with her mother, Mrs. Sarah Sar-ah Dalton, in this city. On various days of the past week, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Russell have had as their guests, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Russell and children of Los Angeles, Calif., J. C. Russell of Ogden, Miss Myrl Dean Kirk of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Gladys R. Williams and R. N. Williams of Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Russell of Tooele. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thorn of this city were guests at the Governors' Gov-ernors' banquet held Tuesday evening eve-ning at Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City. Mrs. J. T. Russell is visiting indefinitely in-definitely with her son, C. G. Russell Rus-sell and family in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hatfield and sons Darl and Gary, and Mr. and Mrs. George Stone and sons Erman and Wayne, have returned from a pleasant vacation to Teton and Yellowstone National parks. They report the fishing good. . . Mrs. A. W. Cherrington spent the past week-end at Preston, Idaho, Id-aho, the guest of her son, Jack Cherrington and family. Mrs. Phyllis Chipman and son John of Salt Lake City visited over the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jensen at Mapleton. V Mrs. Wesley Robey left Monday evening for an indefinite visit with her daughter and family at Billings, Bill-ings, Montana. |
