Show CANCER CONVENTION TO BE FEATURE OF DRIVE APR. 18 Mrs. Joseph L. Wirthlin, Utah State Commander, Cancer Field Army, announced that a long-hoped long-hoped for step forward in the all-out all-out fight on cancer is nearing reality. This step ahead is a series ser-ies of cancer service conferences, multiple purpose, one-day assemblies assem-blies which will be conducted in eight Utah regional cities, April 12 to 20. The Cancer Service conferences will offer to the residents in each area an opportunity to check upon up-on cancer symptoms. This is the first objective of the five-purpose conferences. , "The conferences will be open to all who desire to check upon suspected cancer symptoms, providing pro-viding they have not previously consulted a physician," said Cancer Can-cer Societv officials. "No fee will be charged. The cancer detection centers will be operated as a service by the doctors doc-tors of Utah through the Utah Division." The Cancer Detection Centers will not treat or prescribe for cancer, can-cer, but if malignancy is suspected suspect-ed by the consulting physicians, the suspected case will be referred to the patient's family physician, with a follow-up by the Field Army's Ar-my's Service committee. The Cancer Service conferences will also offer roundtable discussions discus-sions on cancer detection by the doctors in each region, special courses in home nursing for can-1 cer patients, and institutes for members of Field Armies in counties coun-ties surrounding 'the conference center. In the evenings, following the conferences, the county campaign cam-paign committees in each locality will conduct meetings for fund drive progress reports and future activities. All conferences will be held in Provo April 18, for residents of Utah, Wasatch, Duchesne and tah counties. |
