Show The first American flag to fly over a foreign fortress was raised on January 27th, 1778, when the American ship Providence captured captur-ed a British fort at New Providence Provi-dence in the West Indies. The flag was raised, guns spiked, all ammunition am-munition removed, three hundred small arms were taken, twenty American prisoners of war were released, and then the Providence sailed with six prize vessels. Fights and Wrestling Floyd Hansen and "Wildcat" McCann as a team, won out against Paddy Nolan and "Blimp" Allred. It took Hansen only a few minutes to floor the protesting Irishman, then while the "Wildcat" "Wild-cat" held the Salt Laker, "Blimp," Hansen worked him over with several sev-eral wrist punches, and it wasn't long before he was two shoulders on the mat. The team match was the result of a fracas between Nolan No-lan and McCann a week ago when Nolan was disqualified on a foul by Referee Hansen. "Wildcat" McCann won a one-fall, one-fall, 30-minute mlatch over "Blimp" Allred, and Floyd Hansen won a like decision from Paddy Nolan. Both single matches took place before the team-match. |
