Show Springville Fire Loss For 1939 Only $196 Fire loss in Springville was very low for the year 19 39, according ac-cording to statistics prepared by the local fire department, which show only $196.00 loss as compared com-pared with $54,200, as the estimated esti-mated endangered. This figure represents only one-third of one per cent loss on 18 calls. In Mapleton on only three calls, the statistics show an estimated loss of $4,033.00 with an estimated estimat-ed endangered of $9,000, or an approximate 45 per cent loss. In the county on 12 calls for the year, the estimated loss is $2,090.00, with an estimated endangered of $25(200, or an slight per cent loss. The local fire department answered an-swered a total of 3 3 calls, comprising com-prising a total of $6,319, estimated estimat-ed loss with an estimated endangered en-dangered of $88,400, and with an approximate loss of seven and one-sixth per cent. They also answered an-swered one false alarm. The unusually low loss in Springville may in part be attributed at-tributed to the fact that for 1939, the department had a new fire truck as well as other modern, up-to-date equipment; and they also instituted a new system wherein each man in the fire department de-partment is assigned a regular job to do on each fire call which is undoubtedly responsible for greater efficiency. During the past year, a number of fire drills for the firemen were held, according to Fire Chief Roy DeSpain, and each man was assigned as-signed a special position.
