Show STUDENTS GO ON ANNUAL TEMPLE TRIP By DICK DUDLEY The annual Springville seminary semin-ary temple excursion, under the direction of Mr. Tew and Mr. 01-sen, 01-sen, seminary teachers, was held Saturday, May 4. In the morning a tour was made of the state capitol and grounds and beautiful Memory park. At the church offices building, Alma M. Smith, grandson of Hyrum Smith, -showed the students many interesting and valuable original documents pertaining to the Latter-day Saints church. Of special interest were the death masks of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother, Hyrum, which are the only true likenesses- in existence of the famous men. Four of the boys, probably over-enthusiastic over-enthusiastic with everything to be seen, left the main group and visited vis-ited the Lion house,, Tiome of President Pres-ident Brigham Young. They were surprised at the vastness of the residence, the like of which truly caused them to have a feeling of reverence. As one of them said, "It gave me a glorious sensation to stand in the very spots where Brigham Young had. The old pianos, organs, couches, cupboards, cup-boards, desks, and much other antique an-tique furniture gave me a sensation sensa-tion of rare thanks to our pioneer forefathers because I was reminded remind-ed of the sacrifices they made to obtain all of them." One of the custodians in the Lion house permitted the boys to view many of the personal relics of the president and his family. It was something new to sit in what is commonly termed "the most comfortable chair in Utah." It is an original chair made in the young days of Salt Lake City by President Young. At noon everyone attended the organ recital in the tabernacle. The music, as it always does, thrilled the students more than can be written in words. It was the first time many of them had been in the world-famous building and viewed the mighty organ. The expanse of the great 200-foot-long oval roof reverberating with the swelling tones of the organ, fairly caused the admiration and awe of the group. A tour of the temple grounds and museum proved very informative informa-tive before entering the temple in the afternoon. The baptismal ceremonies cere-monies were very satisfactory. Work was performed for about 800 names. The tetimony of holiness was alive in everyone's hearts when they left for home. On behalf of the seminary students;, I am thankful thank-ful for such a splendid opportunity opportun-ity for moral and religious advancement ad-vancement as offered by these seminary temple excursions. |
