I moan sotting up aomo sort of community service for the boys coming homo from war. And there arc plonty coming now. This job Is not something We women can taeklo alone. But we can start the ball rolling and enlist en-list cooperation of other clubs and the men's organizations Rotary, Kiwanis, and especially such veterans' vet-erans' groups as the American Legion. Of course, the all-important thing that returning servicemen need is a job. And business and industry have promised to do everything in their power everything every-thing that government control of materials and production will permit per-mit them to do to provide jobs. But getting the men into the jobs is not always easy, and there's whore we can help. First, every town should set up a service center as a focal point. Then there should be a central employment em-ployment agency, with the dual function of first finding out about the job possibilities of the area, and then fitting the men to the work. Another service, we can give is to be able to refer ex-servicemen to somebody trained in evaluating and pressing disability claims. And also to guidance workers yho can give a word of advice about jobs and other plans. We can see to it that whatever welfare agencies we have are prepared pre-pared to give the special help veterans vet-erans need legal advice, for instance, in-stance, and special attention in disability dis-ability or psychoneurosis cases. And another very important way we can assist these men is to guide them to a bank or some other reputable place where they can borrow money to start a business, or to buy a home or a farm. |
