Obviously, the government guarantee guar-antee on farm prices, for a limited limit-ed period, will help tillers of the soil but it is perfectly plain that the government cannot afford an unlimited guarantee of prices, regardless re-gardless of surpluses on hand and the world price. It begins to look like some type of production control will be inevitable in-evitable after the war unless the nation elects to open up foreign markets by accepting large imports im-ports of foreign goods and products. prod-ucts. This brings us back to control of crops, based upon the voluntary volun-tary action of farmers themselves. It does not mean that every farmer farm-er will endorse the program but that the vast majority of them, acting under existing legislation, will vote for intelligent regulation of production to fit the supply and demand situation. |
