Show 1 umuer r uriy-une Progress Reported In UWF Drive City And State Quota Expected To Be Reached Within Next Few Days; Response In Business District Generous Response to the United War Fund drive in this city is reported with business houses visited and a canvass of homes being made. Indications are that the total quota for Utah of $405,000 will ce subscribed well within the campaign period and a considerable considera-ble amount in excess of local quotas quo-tas is expected from many of the districts. First locality to report itself over the top was Castle Dale, Emery Em-ery county, at 11 a. m. on the opening op-ening day of the drive. Green River, Riv-er, Emery county, followed closely on the heels of Castle Dale, making mak-ing its goal by 6 p. m. on the same day. East Washington county campaign district announced on the following day that it had reached its War Fund quota, thus becoming the first major campaign district to complete the work of solicitatic n. To Emery county went the honor hon-or of being the first county to reach its ouota. Two days after the opening of the campaign, L. T. Hunter, county campaign chairman, chair-man, announced to state headquarters headquar-ters that the work of solicitation had been finished with an oversubscription oversub-scription in the treasury. Reports have been received from eleven other counties that they are rapidly rap-idly reaching their goals and active ac-tive campaigning would be completed com-pleted wc'l in advance of the offi- cial closing date of the drive. According to Herbert M. Schiller, Schil-ler, Executive Director of the Fund, chairmen and all their committees com-mittees throughout the state are putting on a fast, dtermined canvass can-vass and the persons solicited are almost all ready to respond to the appeal. Interest and a public desire to support the USO and other home-front home-front agencies and the War Prisoners Pris-oners Aid and the United Seamen's Sea-men's Service is matched by the urgency of the appeal for the for- ' eign relief agencies. While areas are being rapidly liberated in Europe, Eu-rope, it has been found that the immediate needs for individual relief re-lief among war sufferers is even greater than suspected when the , major part of the data had to be secured from underground or refugee ref-ugee sources. |
