Show FOUR CHANGES IN CAGE RULES ARE ANNOUNCED National Basketball Committee Makes Changes In Hoop Sport To Prevent "Goal Tenders" Four new rule changes In the basketball sport have been made by the National Basketball Rules Committee at its annual session held in New. York. The new regulations, regu-lations, which should be heartily welcomed especially by Prep and M Men cage players, will become effective with the start of the 1944-45 basketball campaign. The new changes include an increase in-crease in the number of personal fouls allowed, approval of unlimited unlim-ited substitutions, the right of officials of-ficials to suspend play, and limitation limita-tion of the privileges of defensive players. The first two rule changes will likely be the most heartily welcomed wel-comed in this vicinity. The unlimited unlim-ited substitutions rule will also give coaches an opportunity to give younger players more rests during a contest. The changes as adopted by the committee are: 1 Personal foul limit increased from four to five. 2 Unlimited substitution allowed, al-lowed, instead of player being permitted per-mitted in game only three times. 3 The officials are given authority au-thority to suspend play at any time in case of an injury. Under present rules, time cannot be called by injured player's side unless un-less it controls ball, or automatic time-out occurs. 4 Defensive players are forbidden forbid-den to touch ball on its downward flight toward hnskpr nn n t-rv for goal, the penalty being award of the goal. The penalty shall not apply if the shot is obviously short of the basket. This rule supersedes super-sedes the present one, forbidding "goal tenders" touching the basket bas-ket or reaching above it to deflect shots. |
