Show UNNECESSARY There is no advantage in washing wash-ing home-canned food with cold water before using it. Mrs. Julia Kiene, director of the Westing-house Westing-house Home Economics Institute, points out that it doesn't do a thing toward stopping bacteria action, ac-tion, whereas it is apt to wash away some of the precious vitamins vita-mins and minerals, to say nothing noth-ing of the flavor. The only protection protec-tion against harmful bacteria in canned food that has not been pressure-cooked is to boil it at least ten minutes before you even taste it. |
