Show (jo-vermr Maw Speaks at Club Meeting "The new war-time industries which have come to this state will bring social, educational and other problems, and these problems may be solved through efforts of women's wom-en's organizations." This thought was emphasized by Governor Herbert B. Maw when he addressed members of the First District Utah Federation of Women's Wom-en's clubs at the tri-ennial convention con-vention conducted in this city on Saturday. Mrs. Harold Christen-sen, Christen-sen, retiring president of the district, dis-trict, was in charge of all sessions. Termed by those attending as a very successful convention from an educational and social standpoint, stand-point, the meetings attracted several sev-eral hundred club women from cities as far south as Nephi and to American Fork on the north, inp.lnrh'ntr TToT-Ki-r fittr Mrs. J. Erval Christensen of Orem, was elected president of the district, succeeding Mrs. Harold Christensen of this city, for a term of three years. Other officers elected during the convention included in-cluded Mrs. Wendle Erlandsen of Payson, district vice-president; Mrs. Arthur Finley, Springville, recording secretary; Mrs. E. B. Terry, Orem, corresponding secretary; secre-tary; Mrs. P. L. Jones, Nephi, auditor; aud-itor; Mrs. Ruth Brockbank, Spanish Span-ish Fork, historian; Mrs. Victor J. Bird, Provo, treasurer; Mrs. Preston Pres-ton G. Hughes of Spanish Fork, state director, nominated at the convention to be ratified at the state convention in Salt Lake City. Especially had all club members been active in war effort projects, including the sale of bonds, salvage campaigns, sewing, and many others. The retiring president's report, given by Mrs. Harold Christensen, showed fine cooperation between the various vari-ous clubs of the district, and also three years of outstanding accomplishment. accom-plishment. The forenoon general session was followed by departmental talks, in charge of district chairmen. chair-men. Luncheon was served at noon, and a general meeting with installation of officers was con- ducted in the afternoon. An interesting feature of the afternoon meeting was the presentation presen-tation of a Past President's pin to Mrs. Harold Christensen, in behalf be-half of the clubs of the district, and in appreciation of the fine work she had accomplished. The presentation was by Mrs. Leslie Cornaby of Spanish Fork, past president, who conducted the installation. in-stallation. Another gesture of appreciation made during the convention was a tribute to Mrs. Bessie Gourley, Utah artist, who has given many of her paintings for benefit of club projects. She was also presented pre-sented with a lovely corsage in behalf of the district, by Mrs. Douglas Dixon of Payson. Mrs. Gourley was present and expressed her appreciation. |
