Show RECONVERSION PLANS COMPLETE I Industrys postwar employment S -plans are virtually complete, with many concerns anticipating ex- pansion of their payrolls, a sur- ; vey of more than 300 companies, employing nearly a million work- - ers, made by the American Man- ! agement Association discloses. No reconversion will be necessary neces-sary for 15J) of these companies while 122 declared only moderate retooling will be required. An overwhelming ov-erwhelming majority, 273, have definite plans for resumption of . peacetime activities. Reconversion is underway in 87 cases, and in at r least one is already completed. ; One hundred eighty-four of the ;v companies contemplating layoffs due to cutbacks or reconversion have definite plans for attempting to place laid-off employees elsewhere, else-where, and 69 of these are plan- ; ning vocational guidance pro- ; grams, while 230 expect to con- l duct some form of exit interview. A sizable portion are planning to stagger layoffs in order to cushion employment problems. |
