Exciting and well-played soft-ball soft-ball games marked an outstanding outstand-ing week at' the city ball park. Most of the games were close and well played, with the victory hinging hing-ing on the last inning to determine deter-mine the winner. Monday night's games drew a large crowd of spectators that enthusiastically en-thusiastically supported both local clubs: the City team against Can-non-Ashton, and the Kolob Lumber Lum-ber Girls against the- "Lucky 13" team. The City team saw a comfortable com-fortable lead of 9-2 collected in the second inning diminish to 10-13 for the Cannon-Ashton ten at the end of the game. Gordon Peirce pitched a fine game for the locals. In the girls' game, Kolob Lumber Lum-ber played one of the best games of the year. Coach Frank Ferguson's Fergu-son's "Lumberettes" took a nice lead early in the game but were overtaken in the final innings and dropped the thrilling contest 5 to 4. Tuesday night in the Industrial league the Averett Coal team held back an offensive drive from the 2-3-4 M Men to win 6-3. The other game, with Carling Childs and Frank Fullmer pitching for the First ward M Men and the Jay-cess, Jay-cess, respectively, made an inter-i inter-i esting pitcher's duel and a very close battle. Not until the last half of the final inning was the winner finally determined. Last week's results: June 12 Averett Coal 9, First Ward M Men 5. June 13 Jaycees 11, 2-3-4 M Men 5.
