Some of the hobbies were dolls, planes, cooking, building and ceramics. It was a very fine hobby show. After the show we sampled the cooking that the girls in the room had made. Everyone had a very interesting hobby. Mary Parker, reporter. S Brookside School Last Tuesday at 5:30, Mr. Frand-sen's Frand-sen's sixth grade class had a wein-er wein-er roast over in the bed of Hobble Creek below the dam. Afterward they went back to the school grounds and played such games as Hobo and Freight Train, Flying Dutchman, Three Deep and Red Rover. A good time was had by all 37 students. Mr. Mason's fifth, grade class has elected class officers for the next while. They are Kenneth Fackrell, president, J. R. Peay, vice president, and Susan Sumsion, secretary. sec-retary. This week this group is planning a weiner roast over by Hobble Creek. Mrs. Lewis' first grade had a really fine cake this week to celebrate cele-brate Jeannie Lloyd's birthday. Mrs. Lloyd made the cake as a big fancy doll. The doll's upper part was a real china doll, but the big fancy dress was a really pretty cake, which we cut and all had a big piece. Did you ever eat a doll? Brookside school is having horse races for their PTA membership drive. Mrs. Sibbald Reid has made a large racing field with metal horses and riders. The horses are moved along the field as the children chil-dren bring in PTA membership fees from their parents. At present, pres-ent, nearly 250 parents have joined, join-ed, and the horses of Mrs. Lewis' and Mr. Wilson's rooms are tied for lead. Brookside school has organized their safety council again this year with two representatives from each room. This group will meet each Monday at eleven to discuss safey problems at school and around the playgrounds, and along the routes to school. The group elected Mary Jane Bird as their chairman. Last Wednesday, our school had a very successful PTA meeting. This year we have three room parents par-ents for each room and for each of the sections of kindergarten. Because Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Boyer have to use the same room for conferences, Mrs. Boyer had her PTA meeting on the following day at 4. The teachers at Brookside are starting PTA conferences this week. Each parent will be given a time to come to school to discuss his or her child. It is hoped that all of our parents will hear good reports about us. Michael Gardner, Arline Payne, Reporters,' |
