High 53, Tintic 49 Pleasant Grove 50, Juab 46 when they weren t supposed to, aj prognosticatiaon of Friday's outcome out-come at Payson would seem to be Strictly a guess. A complete reversal of play Tuesday night from that last Friday Fri-day saw the Devils completely outclassed out-classed in their 60-40 loss to Spanish Span-ish Fork on the Don floor. The last Friday thriller they won from top ranking Provo 47-45 in an overtime. over-time. The Devils have yet to win on their opponent's court. Any resemblance of the Red Devil team of Tuesday night's contest con-test with the team that played Provo Friday could only be found in one player, Calvin Thorpe. Cal hit for 22 points against Spanish in an attempt to keep his club in the game, but got little assistance pointwise from his teammates. Spanish Fork outhustled, outshot and completely outclassed the Devils as they led throughout the entire contest. Halftime score was 23-28 for Spanish. Devils Upset Provo . . . In one of the biggest upsets of the prep basketball season to date the high riding Provo Bulldog sails were deflated with a 47-45- overtime over-time loss at the hands of a brilliantly bril-liantly alert Red Devil five here Friday night. Led by Gary Crandall and Calvin Cal-vin Thorpe, both of whom played their best game together on of- fense as well as defense, and coup-3 led with the strength of work horse Jackie Canto, Marvin Fullmer, Full-mer, Rex Blanchard and Don Parker, Par-ker, the Springville team did themselves them-selves proud in turning back a big, well balanced Provo club. Credit also for the victory should be given to Coach Alma Garrett who worked work-ed out as nice a defense against the Provo club as could be considering consid-ering their height and under the basket plays. As a result, the big 'Dogs missed several of their usual tip-in shots and under-the-basket set-ups. The overtime game was close throughout and both teams played heads-up ball. Tied quarter scores bore out the eveness and to Gary Crandall, who was the big hero in the last of ehe fourth quarter, and to Fullmer and Parker who came up with timely baskets to keep the score even, and the scoring and bankboard work of Thorpe, the Devils can be proud. Crandall brought the score to within two points in the closing moments of the game with a jump shot and then tied up the game with a nice corner set shot. Provo made a foul shot in the extra period but Crandall Cran-dall dunked in two and Thorpe two to lead 46-43. Provo scored another basket and then Jackie Canto hit another foul and the Devils won the thriller 47-45. Crandall hit 14, Thorpe 12, Fullmer 8, Parker 6 and Canto 5 to lead the winners.
