New Disposal Plant Completed; Plant Operations Now Begun Mayor Cherrington anounced that Springville City's newly constructed disposal plant, built at a cost of approximately $250,000, went into operation SThursday afternoon at 3 p.m. Located at about Sixth North and Fifth West, the unit is built on an 8 acre tract of land and was constructed by the Turner Contracting Con-tracting company of Heber, at a contract cost of $229,000. The new plant is Utah County's fourth plant with other cities in the county coun-ty either working on theirs or planning plan-ning one. Mayor Cherrington stated that townspeople are welcome to go to the plant and see how such a plant operates and where part of the taxpaying dollar has been spent for a much needed civic health Improvement Im-provement program. The plant is operated by Daniel Witney and at present there is also another assistant assis-tant on hand to help keep the plant working until every detail is worked work-ed out. The sewage goes into the plant and into a digester with chemical ingredients and then passes into a secondary digester where it is further treated. Then, following the second treating of the sewage, it passes through a filtering process pro-cess and from there the chlorene is added to purify it. Solids are also treated and processed for commercial commer-cial fertilizer. Liquids emerge from the processing filtrations purified and drain on down into the lake. The plant is automatically controlled con-trolled and after all ctiies of tho county put in such a plant, hopes for making Utah Lake a healthful place for recreation will be realized. |
