Show School Building Costs Increased During the past three years, Utah's school districts have built or contracted to build more than $21,500,000 worth of new school buildings, according to figures on file at the State Department of Public Instruction. The construction figures are from a report prepared by the department for use by the State Board of Education in setting up state-wide building- standards. The standards will be used to define are "maximum construction cost" in which the state will participate par-ticipate with a $2,000,000 state aid fund set up by the 1951 Legislature. Legis-lature. None of the $21,500,000 already spent for building is state money. It has been raised locally by property taxes levied by the districts dis-tricts on their own residents. The total expediture is almost equally divided between construction construc-tion of elementary and secondary schools and facilities. Elementary construction during the past three years totals $10,288,400, according to the survey, and high school construction, con-struction, $11,238,200, . including shops and gymnasiums. |
