Show lihools Will Open Here Sept 17th Springville and Mapleton city schools and those of the entire Nebo District will open on Monday, Mon-day, September 17, two weeks later la-ter than the sceduled date, it was announced this week following a meeting of Nebo district school board. The late date has been set in order or-der that the older students may be that the older students may be free to help with the heavy fruit harvest in the area. The matter of the late opening has been under advisement for approximately a month with pressure coming from various groups urging that students stud-ents are needed on the farms more in the fall than in the spring. Meetings have been held thru-out thru-out the district to discuss the problem and representatives of these meetings and other groups met with the school board when the decision was made. School Closing May 29 According to the calendar worked out for the year, classes will continue only one week later in the spring than the regular schedule, sche-dule, the closing date being set on May 29. To make up the other week, the Thanksgiving recess will be for one day only, Thanksgiving Day, and classes will be held on Friday and Saturday that week. Christmas holidays will be as usual from December 21 to January Jan-uary 2. There will be no beet vacation va-cation but students needed to harvest har-vest this crop will be excused from school. 175 Days of School The present calendar for the year provides for 175 school days, which is the same as last year. All teachers' meetings and institute in-stitute will be held the week before be-fore the opening of school, with the principals' meeting September 10. Teachers institute will be on Sept. 11 and 12 and building meetings on Sept. 13 and 14. J |
