" - - X ' " ' " 1 Charles Alleman and Little Granddaughter Charles Alleman Celebrates 80th Birthday With Family Dinner, Sunday Another Springville citizen reached the eightieth milestone this week, when Charles Alleman, well known retired farmer and stockman, celebrated his Lirthday. In lonor of Mr. Alleman, a family dinner was given at the Chicken Roost Sunday and during the day, other relatives and friends called to extend test wishes, and still others sent messages. A daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davies came from Salt Lake City for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alleman, Alle-man, here from San Diego, California, visited during the day as did a son, Lynn and family of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ajax of Boise, Ida., sent congratulations, also a daughter, Mrs. Julia A. Caine, who is studying for her Masters Degree at Greely, Colorado., Mr. Caine, with the Utah County clinic, Provo, called during the day. In addition to his son and three daughters, Mr. Alleman has eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. A resident of Springville throughout his lifetime, Mr. Alle-, man has taken active part in church and civic affairs. During his early life, he served on a three-year mission in the Samoan Islands. He was assistant Sunday School superintendent when the Second ward was organized and later served as superintendent of the Sunday school. He worked in the presidency of the 51st Quorum of Seventies and has also been a ward teacher for many years. He is now a member of the High Priests. His parents, Benjamin and Sariah Jane Starr Alleman were among the first families to settle in Springville. Mr. Alleman has a record of attending possibly more Old Folks entertainments than anyone else his age in the' community. He seldom missed one of these programs during the 40 years he served on the committee and since retiring from the Old Folks committee com-mittee at the age of 70 years, has seldom missed a program. He married Hannah Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple in 1899. She died in August, 1947. Mr. Alleman lives alone at the family residence, 444 South Main, where he tends a few chickens and keeps his home spic and span and has a beautiful yard and garden. The Herald joins with townspeople in wishing him many more happy birthdays. |
