Waste is to be decried whenever and wherever found but with an unbalanced budget it is partic-ulary partic-ulary reprehensible. Government paper work costs S4 billion per year, taing 750,000 full-time employees and using 25 billion pieces of paper. Estimated savings if recommendations are followed $295,000,000 Utah's share $920,000 Medical service with 26 departments depart-ments and agencies cost $4,150,-000,000 $4,150,-000,000 in 1954 and touched 31,-000,000 31,-000,000 people and used 10 of all acitive doctors. Many duplica tions and over-iapuigs. ii;ven arter increasing certain services, $106,-200,000 $106,-200,000 net savings estimated S295. 000,000 Utah's share $1,-180 $1,-180 000. Transportation of persons and things cost around $3 billion in 1953. This included 9 billion passenger pas-senger miles in he U. S. and 9.1 billion over-seas travel. By coordinating coord-inating and streamlining, savings of $150 million possible Utah's share $600,000. Lending agencies 104 of them and employing 40,000 people have investments around $16.9 billion plus authorization to call for $14.1 billion aditional funds. Considerable Consider-able competition with private agencies, certain borrowers sub- sidized, ect. Savings in addition to reducing public debt nearly $5 billion estimated around $200 million mil-lion Utah's' share $800,000. Utah's potential share of savings sav-ings from these proposals totals $3.5 million. To us this is a lot of money. However many other areas are being investigated, which show signs of much rich pay dirt. To ef-fecuate ef-fecuate the recommendations will require united support of our Congressional Con-gressional delegation. The rewards will be great |
