Show Larsen, Beal Paintings Added To Springville's Collection B. F. Larsen's painting, "Susquehanna River," a large autumn-colored landscape,' a favorite of many art visitors this year, was purchased for the Spring- ville high school s permanent collection col-lection and unveiled at the closing clos-ing art program Friday afternoon. Also a medium-sized picture by Gifford Beal, sent by the Kraush-aar Kraush-aar Galleries of New York, became be-came a part of the permanent collection at the close of the 1955 national exhibit and was unveiled Friday. "Susquehanna River," was unveiled un-veiled by Camilla Livingston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Livingston, the senior class queen and the Beal painting "Rosen Cavalier," Cav-alier," was unveiled by the junior class queen, Lucille Bryan, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Bryan. In the unveiling exercises for junior high students held early Friday afternoon, the unveiling honors were accorded to Linda Al-leman, Al-leman, seventh grade queen, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Alleman; and Frances Singleton, ninth grade, queen, who is the daughter of Mrs. Mansuel Singleton. Howard Weight of the senior high and Carol Lee Williams of the junior high were announced as the winners of the essay contest on "My Favorite Picture." Howard's essay is printed in today's Herald on page 5. He was presented with a beautiful painting donated by Merlin Steed of Las Angeles, Calif., titled "California Poppies" by F. Gardiner. Miss Williams was presented pre-sented a color print of the popular "Three Portraits" by William Sargent Sar-gent Kendall which is part of the permanent collection. Howard's theme was written on "Bridge of Recollection and Regret" Re-gret" by Harry Leith; and Carol Lee's was about "Cradle of the Deep" by Ila Macaffee. Aureole Award Allen Frazier was awarded the Aureole Club cash award for being be-ing judged the outstanding art student stu-dent of the school during the past year. Allen, a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dillon Frazier, is a senior. The presentation was made by Mrs. Michael Long, president of the Aureole club, who stated that the money is to be used to further his art studies. A report of donations to the art was given by J. F. Wingate of the Art Board. Music for the exercises was furnished fur-nished by the Bel Canto ladies chorus of Springvile directed by Dr. Franklin Madsen and by Evelyn Eve-lyn Boyer, who sang a vocal solo. Mrs. Lucile Erickson and Mrs. Betty Sumsion were accompanists. accompan-ists. Soloists heard with the chorus were Lucile Purr, Lydia Johansen, Evelyn Boyer and Kay Eldridge. |
