Show EYSTON MAKES 270 JN TRIAL BONNRVTLLE SALT PLATS,' TJtsih, Aug. Hi W.Mi Captain Ouigo K. T. Kynton took his world ic:oid-hohTi;ig Thunderbolt out on this natural .salt speedway today and sped it at 270 miles per hour in his first test run of the SL-asun. Giving the machine's hew enclosed en-closed cockpit its initial trial, Ey-ston Ey-ston w:is nearly asphyxiated by fumes from the 'brakes and motor. Only a respirator drawing fresh nir from the outside saved him from being overcome, the English racing driver said. At the conclusion of the nine-mile nine-mile ride the captain's white overalls over-alls were black, and his face was covered with soot. Eyston said the brakes should have been rubbed off before the run. Aside from the breathing difficulty dif-ficulty which the captain said "must certainly be remedied," the car apparently functioned perfectly. per-fectly. With both ends of the track wet, only about nine miles of the 13-mile speedway were used for today's test. Eyston estimated that the flats will have dried sufficiently suf-ficiently for an attempt to surpass sur-pass his own 312-mile-an-hour record in about a week. |
