Show Provo Power Case Is Argued Before Supreme Court SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 27 (iu: The State Supreme Court today heard the second day's arguments argu-ments in the suits of Utah Power and Light company seeking to obtain a writ of prohibition forbidding for-bidding the cities of Ogdcn and Provo from constructing municipal munici-pal power plants. Shirley Jones, attorney for the power corporation, told the high raurt that ' Provo had exceeded its limit of bonded debt set by the Utah constitution. H. Arnold Rich, representing the Associated General Contractors of Utah. Plaintiff in intervention, described tlic practice of Provo in lettng the S840.000 contract for construc-tiin construc-tiin of the proposed power plant without advertising for bids. George S. Ballif, Provo attorney, attor-ney, appealed for the city as did Elias Hansen, former chief justice jus-tice of the state supreme court. Defense arguments admitted the city was close to its constitutional "cot limit but said the project would be self-sustaining. Provo city officials spent the iy in Salt Lake City attending tne supreme court hearing on the Utah Light and Power company's 1 case against the city contesting a municipal power plant here. Mayor Mark Anderson, Commissioners Com-missioners Walter P. Whitehead and J. p. McGuire made the trip. |
