Show SOCIETY NEVS In honor of Mrs. Leah Bart-lett Bart-lett of this city whose seventy-seventh seventy-seventh birthday occurred recently, recent-ly, her children and grandchildren grandchil-dren entertained at a party in the form of a surprise at her home. A delightful time was spent with games and a tasty lunch. The guest of honpr.was presented during dur-ing the evening with a beautiful lamp. Those present were J. R. Bartlett of Potter, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bartlett of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Wright of this city, Mr. and Mrs. George Close of Spanish Fork, and Mr. and Mrs. Arch Bartlett of Springville together to-gether with a number of grandchildren grand-children of the honor guest. Mrs. Lydia Sumsion and Mrs. Zella Wignall returned home Monday Mon-day from a trip to Yakima, Wash., where they went to visit their brother, Frank Harmer, who was seriously ill there. Members of the S. T. club were delightfully entertained Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Emma Rowland. A tasty and nicely arranged luncheon was served at small tables early in the evening. Later bridge was Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall of this city announce . the marriage of their daughter Charlotte, to Golden Gold-en Anderson, son of Thomas Anderson An-derson of Greenriver, which took place Friday in Salt Lake City. Mr- and Mrs. H. M. Dougall returned re-turned Monday from an enjoyable visit in California. They spent the time with their daughter, Catherine Cather-ine and family. Enroute home they were caught in the road blockade and were several days on the return re-turn trip. The Mothers Study club meeting meet-ing is scheduled for January 22, when Miss Helen Palfreyman will be in charge of a musical program. pro-gram. Members of the Jeune Mere club were entertained Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. True Clyde. A feature of the entertainment enter-tainment was a story, "Cremona," by Mrs. Florence Nelson who also gave New Year's resolutions and "Interesting People of America." A delicious lunch was served to the following members: Mrs. Florence Flor-ence Allen, Mrs. Lucille Childs, Mrs. Fay Hammond, Mrs. Maurine Haymod, Mrs. Beth Jensen, Mrs. Elaine Paroell, Mrs. Mabel Wright, and Mrs. Edna Clyde. One of the largest and most successful parties of the week was held Friday evening by members mem-bers of the Mother's Study club and their partners at the First ward hall. A sumptuous dinner was served early in the evening. New Year place cards were used on the ' long table which was artistically ar-tistically centered with a low bowl of sweet peas. During the evening a nicely arranged program was given. President Maude Thorn was mistress of ceremonies and introduced Mis. Nell Alleman as tcastmistress. Bishop A. G. Peterson Peter-son offered grace and toasts were given by William Wainwright, S. J. Boyer and Mrs. Ella Reynolds. Mrs. Gene Pierce and Mrs. Gladys Eoyer entertained with two vocal duets; Miss Phyllis Smart, a violin solo, acompanied by Mrs. Bell Thomas; A. G. Thorn and Wayne Johnson, a mandolin and guitar duct; Miss Louise Clyde, a piano accordion selection; Mrs. Eva Crandall, a piano solo. A feature of the evening was the three-act play given by Miss Mer-lene Mer-lene Gardner of Provo. Nearly 50 I members and guests were in at- tendance. Hostesses for the eve-i eve-i ning wie Mrs. Percinda Oakley, Mrs. Gladys Boyer, Mrs. Gene Pierce. Mrs. Grace Loveridge, Mrs. Menette Bird and Mrs. Nellie Burt. enjoyed with high score prize for the games being won by Mrs. Gwen Baxter and the low score prize by Mrs. Hazel Harrison. Twelve club members attended. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson returned re-turned recently from a two weeks' trip to California. They viewed the rose carnival at Pasadena on New Year's day and spent several days sightseeing at various places of interest. They also visited Mrs. Johnson's brother, A. E. Adam-son Adam-son and family at Los Angeles. En route home they viewed Boulder Boul-der dam. Mrs. Clara Sumsion spent the week end in Salt Lake City in attendance at-tendance at the annual convention of the Utah State Nurses' association. asso-ciation. Mrs. Max Packard was hostess to members of the Jovality club at her home Friday evening. Bridge was played and high score prize was awarded to Mrs. Clara Childs and Mrs. Coe Durrant, the latter being a guest. A well arranged ar-ranged lunch was also enjoyed by the following members and guests: Mrs. Durrant and Mrs. Arthur Condie, guests, Mrs. Lnell Best, Mrs. Mary Bird, Mrs. Afton Palfreyman, Mrs. Mabel Simkins. Mrs. Clara Childs, Mrs. Louise Brown, Mrs. Ann Stewart, Airs. Sarabell Stewart, Mrs. Audrey Jensen, and Mrs. Carrie Tripp. |
