Show Hiss Enid Pennington, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennington, Pen-nington, recently returned from a four weeks vacation trip to California. Cali-fornia. She .visited Mr. and Mrs. Clenn Dall.n at Lor.K Beach and with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Men-cray Men-cray at Santa Anna. She accompanied accom-panied Mr. and Mrs. Meneray to California, following the latter's visit with relatives in Springville. Mss Phylta Weight, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Weight, left recently to visit her aunt, Mrs. Clifford Wivght and family at Los Angeles, Calif. Following the football gamr with the Lincoln high schoo here Friday night. Springville students plan to hold a dance at Memorial hall. Elaborate plans are underway to make the danc one of the big social affairs of the season. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Bate of Burley, Idaho, visited the past week with Mr. Bates mother, Mi's. Clara M. Bate and other relatives and friends in Springville. Spring-ville. Mrs. Emma Beardall spent" one day of last week with her daughter, daugh-ter, Miss Anna Beardall who is instructor in the Richfield high school. She was accompanied by Mrs. May Bird who visited her sister, Mrs. Emma Kennedy and family at Salina. club were elected as follows: Mrs. Dolley Smith, presidnet: Mrs. Alice Ence, secretary and treasurer treas-urer and Mrs. Helen Robb.ns, reporter. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostess and bridge was also an enjoyable feature of the party. Prizes for the evening's games went to Mrs. Dolley Smith, and Mrs. Mabel Simkins, the latter being a guest. Others in attendance were Mrs. Audrey Jensen, a guest, Mrs. Carrie Car-rie Tripp, Mrs. Viola Smith, Mrs. Norma Noe, Mrs. Helen Robbins. Mrs. Hortense Harwood, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. Inezt CJiacler, Mrs. Birdie Thorpe, Mrs. Rea Tolboe of Provo, the latter three being welcomed as new members. mem-bers. The Guardians of the Treasure, Treas-ure, First ward Beehive class, under the direction of Mrs. Jensen, Jen-sen, enjoyed a party at the latter's home Tuesday evening. Games and lunch featured the occasion with the following girls present: Helen Clegg, Elaine O'Dell, Melba Witney, Venice Pennington, Delia Carter, Lillian Ostler, Gladys Weight, Theo Child:, Wilna Brown, Betty Blanchard, La Vern Gourley, Martha Mar-tha Mason, Emily Paxman, Lois Fullmer, Joyce Hardy. Mrs. Hattie Burt was hostess to members of the La Jolie club at her home Thursday evening. as guests of Hugh Dougall at ' the Dougall ranch in Hobble Creek canyon. Accompanied by their son, Arvil Stewart of bgden, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Stewart and son Loyd of this city, have recently returned re-turned from a two weeks' enjoyable enjoy-able trip to California- They visited Mr. and Mrs. Stewart's sons, James and Joe, and daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Edna Cooper, at Los Angeles. En route they also spent some time at Boulder dam and at Bryce and Zion canyons. Mr. and Mrs. George Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Peterson Peter-son returned home early this week from California, where they went to meet the former's son, Carl, who has returned from a two years' mission in the Hawaiian Ha-waiian Islands. The group visited a number of interesting places on the West coast during their trip. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Cook and daughter, Mrs. Martha Whiting of Mapleton, have returned from a several weeks' trip to California. Califor-nia. Mr. Cook's health was improved im-proved during his stay on the coast. Three Springville couples have received licenses to wed this week. A. Ray Greener of Helper and Netha L. For the purpose of stimulating interest in athletics and other school activities, a "Pep" club has been organized at the high school, composed of girls in the junior class. The new officers are: Arlene Hatch, president; Leslie Les-lie Loveridge, vice president; Le-nore Le-nore Weight, secretary; Edna Nielson, reporter. A meeting of the group is set for Thursday when plans for participation in various events of the year will be made. Miss Ida Hoffman is faculty advisor. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Hall and daughters, Beth and Ruth, and Mrs. Merlyn Prothero and- son spent the week end at Green River, Wyoming, as guests of another of Mr. and Mrs. Hall's daughters, Mrs. Golden Anderson and family. Mrs. Daniel Witney in company with er daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Van Patten of Salt Lake City, spent the past week in southern Utah.- They visited at St. George, Cedar City, Richfield and Salina and spent some time at Zion and Bryce canyons. can-yons. Walter Robinson of Springville, and A. Marie Stone of Mapleton, were , granted a license in Provo. Mrs. D. B. Welch as returned from a month's delightful trip in the east. She motored to Pittsburgh, Pitts-burgh, Pa., where she visited her mother, Mrs. L. M. Gillilan, and a sister, Mrs. C. E. Eakin, and family. Others present included in-cluded Mrs. Evelyn Boyer, Mrs. Ruth Miller, Mrs. Reva Roylance, Mrs. Dona Whitney, Mrs, Ruth Jones, Mrs. Fay Hansen, Mrs. i Fern Senior, Mrs. Lyman Robbins and Mrs. Reed Averett, the latter lat-ter two being guests. 1 Approximately 75 students of the Springville seminary classes under the direction of Principal Joseph Olsen and Ray Colton, enjoyed an outing at Balsam park Saturday afternoon. Games preceded pre-ceded a picnic lunch and general social around a huge bonfire. The outing was the first of a series of similar events and trips to be taken by the seminary groups during the year. The next regular meeting of the Legion auxiliary is scheduled for October 12, at 8 p. m., at Memorial hall, announces President Presi-dent Hazel Roylance. Following the initiation ritual conducted by club officers, plans for the year were discussed and the group enjoyed games and refreshments. re-freshments. New members inducted in-ducted were: Mary Louise Win-gate, Win-gate, LaJeune Whitney, Merle Fletcher, Ruth Crandall, Beulah Whiting, Marjorie Whiting, Erma Peery, Elsie Sumsion, Beth Hall and others present included: Loween Crandall, Lucille Metcalf, Lois Johnson, Edna Nielson, Irene Bird, Artha Kay, Edna Wiscombe, Catherine Mendenhall and Fern Simkins. On Friday, new members of the Boosters' club entertained the old members at a luncheon at the high sc'hool. They later participated par-ticipated in a snake dance to stimulate interest in the Provo-Springville Provo-Springville football game. About 20 girls were in attendance.
