Show SERVICES HELD FOR PROMINENT CIVICWORKER Largely attended funeral services serv-ices were held in the Third ward chapel Monday afternoon for Mrs. Julia A. Crandall Packard, prominent promi-nent church and civic worker of this community, who died Friday night at the family residence after several months' illness. Mrs. Packard Pack-ard was the wife of M. O. Packard, Pack-ard, president of the Springville banking company, the American Wholesale company of Seattle, Wash., and the Utah Wholesale company of Salt Lake City. All local business houses closed during dur-ing the funeral. Bishop William Witney of the Third ward was in charge of the services. The invocation was offered of-fered by Peter Nielson, former bishop of the Third ward and the benediction was by A. G. Peterson First ward bishop. Patiarch J. H. Manwaring dedicated the grave at the city cemetery. Speakers at the services were William T. Tew, Mrs. Ella Reynolds Reyn-olds and C. G. Salisbury. Richard Condie gave two vocal i solos, accompanied by Becky Almond Al-mond of Salt lake City. Elmo Coffman and Miss Helen Palfrey-man Palfrey-man each gave a vocal solo. Mrs. Packard was born in Springville, November 30, 1864. a daughter of Spicer W. and Mary Branagan Crandall. STie was married mar-ried to Mr. Packard March 2, 1884, at Springville. The couple celebrated their golden wedding in 1934. Mrs. Packard served as captain of the Daughters of Utah Poineers Camp Springville, for four years. She had also been president of the Springville Flower Garden club and president ofthe Alpha Beta club, local literary organization. She has always been a. highly respected respect-ed and beloved mother of this community. com-munity. She was the. first president of Kolob stake primary board and served in this position for a' number num-ber of years. During her early life she was active in ward Promary and Relief society work. Surviving, besides her husband are a daughter and six sons: Milan O. Packard, Alton Packard, Phoenix, Phoe-nix, Ariz.; S. Dwight Packard, Provo; D. Russell Packard, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Eliza Taylor, Los Angeles, Calif.; Ralph Packard, Pack-ard, Reno, Nev.; F. C. Packard, Springville; 13 grandchildren; a brother, D. A. Crandall; two half-brothers, half-brothers, Wells Crandall, Springville Spring-ville and Charles Crandall, Orcm. |
