Mrs. Mae Huntington ied in a discussion on sponsoring an entertainment for the art fund. Two new members, Mrs. Lela Sumsion and Mrs. Erma Gudmundsen were welcomed into the club. At the close of the program pro-gram which was in charge of President Maude Thorn, a dainty lunch was served by the hostess, who was assisted by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nuttall. The next club meeting is scheduled for October 23, at the home of Mrs. Etta Thorpe. Approximately 36 officers in various auxiliary organizations of the First ward, attended a temple! excusing last Thursday evening, j Members of the Legion will entertain en-tertain at a party November 11, in the ,.form of a banquet for auxiliary aux-iliary members and their partners part-ners and Legionnaires and their partners, at 7:30 p. m. at Memorial Mem-orial hall. Mendenhall, October I 16. Mrs. Kenneth Condie, very I charmingly gave a paper on "Living "Liv-ing our Religion." "The Builders" I by Longfellow was read by Mrs. TG. G. NeM. Mrs: W. W. Brock-bank Brock-bank gave an excellent paper on "Music as a Character Builder." Miss Barbara Gudmunsen played two piano selections. Robert Mendenhall Men-denhall and Carma Mendenhall also al-so entertained with piano solos. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostess. Mrs. C. H. Thorstensen, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Thorstensen and Mrs. W. L. Shanky of Ogden were in Springville early this week especially to attend the funeral of Mrs. Julia A. Jackard. Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Aaron Johnson were delightfully de-lightfully entertained last Thursday Thurs-day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Jennie Starr. Assisting hostesses host-esses were Mrs. Ada Harrison, Mrs. Mae Smith and Mrs. Ethel Loher. Mrs. Mac Bird was accepted accept-ed as lieutenant to Captain Sylvia Miner following resignation of Mrs. Ella Miner. A nicely ararng-ed ararng-ed program was given during the afternoon as follows: Readings, Gcnettc Crandall; Piano solos, Mrs. Eva Crandall; pioneer lesson, les-son, Mrs. Ellen Crandall; a history of Newman Bulkley while he served serv-ed in the Mormon battalion, by his rand-daughter, Mrs. Emma Gottfredson. Mrs. J. W. Olsen was welcomed into the camp as a new member. At the close of the program pro-gram dainty refreshments were served to about 40 members and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crandall of Orem and Dan Crandall of Provo were among the out-of-town relatives who attended services for Mrs. Packard here Monday. "A Celestial Journey" is the theme of the Home Culture club" program Friday. Providing weather conditions permit, the club ladies will meet at the home of Mrs. L. E. Otteson at 7 p. m. and journey to the Brigham Young university, where Dr. Wayne Hales will lecture on the universe. The club members will later assemble at the home of Mrs. Otteson where luncheon will be served. The Alpha Beta club will entertain enter-tain at their annual card party Saturday, October 24, at Memorial hall. Tickets may be secured from any of the club members or at the door. The public- is cordially invited to attend and all are promised prom-ised a good time. The .Legion auxiliary will hold their "annual card party Saturday, November 7. at Memorial hall. Tickets arc being distributed by members or may be secured at the door. Berne Kindred of Tooele, Mr. and Mrs. Creed Kindred of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Leon-ard Thatcher of Provo, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Kindred Kin-dred during the week end. the occasion oc-casion being Mr. Kindred's birthday. birth-day. Complimentary to Mrs. Harold Averett a bride of the past week, a miscellaneous shower was given Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Hardy Averett, grandmother of the groom. A delightful time was spent with games and social chat followed by a tasty lunch. The bride received many beautiful wedding gifts from the large number num-ber of friends and relatives in attendance. Jovality club members were entertained en-tertained last Friday night at the home of Mrs. Louise Brown in Provo. Following a tasty luncheon lunch-eon carried out in Hallowe'en motifs, mo-tifs, cards were enjoyed. High score prize for the games was won by Mrs. Sarabell Stewart. Others present were Mrs. Carrie Tripp. Mrs. Ann Stewart, Mrs. Lucille Packard. Mrs. Mary Bird, Mrs. Clara Childs, Mrs. Luell Best, Mrs. Afton Palfreyman. At the close of the party a business meeting was held and officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Mrs. Carrie Tripp, president; Mrs. Sarabell Stewart, secretary-treasurer; Mrs. Ann Stewart, reporter. The next meeting meet-ing of the club will be held November Nov-ember 13. at the home of Mrs. Mary Bird. Members of the Mother's Study club were entertained Friday afternoon aft-ernoon at the home of Mrs. Bernice Ber-nice Hutchinson. An especially interesting program featured the meeting with a paper on English literature given by Mrs. Blanch Beal and another by Mrs. Ada B. Straw on International Relationships. Relation-ships.
