Show Local Students In Y Affairs PROVO (Special to The Springville Spring-ville Herald) Students from Springville high school at Springville Spring-ville were entered in the contests events at the tenth annual speech tournament and drama festival at ririgham Young university, April 6, 7 and 8. They entered debate Fern Sim-kins, Sim-kins, Virginia Bird, June Whitney, Whit-ney, Joe Salisbury; oratory, Dor-othy Dor-othy Johnson; extemporaneous speaking, Andy Bylund, LaRhea Nelson. They also presented a one-act play, "The Swamp Spirit." Spir-it." Bernice Park, . drama teacher and forensic coach accompanied the students to the tournament. Total registration was over 800. This marks the largest attendance attend-ance in the ten-year history of the event. PROVO (Special to The Springville Spring-ville Herald) Joseph Olsen of Spring-ville has , been appointed1 transportation director of Delta Phi, returned missionary fraternity frater-nity at Bigham Young university. Delta Phi is a national honorary honor-ary fraternity; its purpose is to foster spiritual activity, high ideals, fellowship, and sociability. It is one of the largest fraternities fraterni-ties on the Y campus and is composed com-posed entirely of returned missionaries. PROVO (Special to The Springville Spring-ville Herald) Earl Whitney and Leslie Beardall of Springville were among the twenty-five stu-dents stu-dents majoring in geology at Brigham Young university who made the annual spring field trip through southern Utah and Nevada. The group left Pr'ovo by bus Wednesday, April 5, and traveled to Fillmore where they studied volcanic rock formations, sulphur deposits four miles south, and mining at Newhouse, west of Mil-ford. Mil-ford. A trip through the famous Lehman Leh-man caves near Baker, Nevada, was the farthest point to which the students traveled. On their return trip, they visited vis-ited Drum mining camp which is west of Delta, and stopped at Topaz mountain and the sand dunes south of Eureka.
